After months of tough battle amongst contestants, Shaapera has emerged as the maiden winner of the karaoke singing competition, “TECNO Own The Stage.”
The 29-year-old Nigerian-born won the grand prize of $25,000, a recording deal and a a brand new TECNO Phantom 5 at the end of Sunday’s Grand Finale which held in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, February 7, 2016.
Tanzanian, Nandy, took the second spot, winning $15,000, a three-month internship programme at Chocolate City, and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone. Kenyan’s Pascal, took the third place winning $10,000 and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone.
The competition had kicked off 13 weeks ago with 15 contestants – five each from Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania.

Shaapera is a 29 year old teacher from Benue State. A singer and a rapper, she also plays the drum set and conga in her church choir.
According to her, she is largely influenced by Lauryn Hill, and she intends to use the money to boost her musical career and to help her family.
